PRESS RELEASE
Monday 6th February 2012
Cairns City Forum - Unions & ALP were not involved in organising
Organisers of the Cairns City Forum are disappointed in Gavin King’s statement on Channel 7 and WIN News that he believes the Cairns City Forum was organised by unions and the ALP.
“We categorically deny any involvement of any unions or the ALP in the organising of this event” said Angus Gasson, one of the principal organisers.
“We have consistently been respectful to all candidates and parties, and Katter’s Australia Party, North Queensland Party, the ALP, and One Nation have not had a problem with the organising” said Gasson.
“The reasons Mr King has given for not attending have changed from door-knocking and family commitments, to not having enough notice, and now to unions and the ALP being involved in organising the event” he added.
“All parties were free and encouraged to invite their supporters, and Sunday’s event attracted a diverse audience” Gasson continued. “The event was professionally chaired by Toastmasters International.”
Two more events are scheduled for the Cairns City Forum in early April – one for the Mayoral candidates and one for Councillor candidates.
